Cross-layer unequal error protection using 64-HQAM and RCPT codes for robust image communication

Abstract In unequal error protection (UEP) schemes, the bits are protected according to their significance in terms of distortion reduction capability during reconstruction process. The conventional UEP schemes primarily designed either using forward correction at application layer network architecture, or hierarchical modulation physical layer. this paper, an optimized cross-layer scheme for set partitioning trees coded images is investigated. proposed uses rate compatible punctured turbo codes and two-layered 64-hierarchical QAM (64-HQAM) Simulation results show that performs slightly better than layer’s coding additive white Gaussian noise channel but significantly flat Rayleigh fading channel, specifically under poor conditions. highly bandwidth efficient having robustness performance close 4-PAM (H 4-PAM). Complexity analysis solution has been carried out.
